Remember Jennison Hall’s gloomy reputation? Students used to describe it as dim and confusing. Its long winding corridors led to labs classrooms and faculty offices. Jennison Hall at Bentley University in Waltham Massachusetts was built in 1968. It was one of the university’s main classroom buildings. For nearly fifty years Jennison Hall had a reputation for being rather uninviting.
But that’s all changed. A major renovation transformed Jennison Hall. The transformation was a huge undertaking. It involved a campus-wide survey and collaboration with architectural experts. The dark and tired building was revitalized. The new Jennison Hall is almost unrecognizable.
The renovation focused on modernizing the interior. The corridors now feature new ceilings energy efficient lighting and lots of windows. This lets in much more natural light. The aim was to create a dynamic state-of-the-art learning environment. The project also included a significant expansion. A two-story portico was filled in. This added approximately 2400 square feet of space. This new space houses Academic Advising and Disability Services. Previously these services were scattered across campus. Now they are conveniently located together.
The first floor houses new high-tech science labs. There’s a chemistry lab a physics lab a biology lab and an Earth and environmental science lab. There’s even a dedicated research lab for students and faculty. New flexible team-based classrooms called collaboratories were added on the second and third floors. The upper floors also boast reconfigured classrooms and a new conference room. The renovation significantly improved the teaching and learning experience. It addressed the limitations of the older facility. The updates reflected Bentley’s commitment to modernizing its educational mission.
The renovation also created more usable space for students. Each floor now has lounge areas and tables. Students can relax study or meet between classes. There are even study rooms that students can book. The improvements made Jennison Hall a much more welcoming and functional space.
