On a Friday in November 2024, journalists gathered at the Jehovah Witness headquarters in Ghana. It marked a momentous occasion: 100 years of Jehovah Witness presence in Ghana. The headquarters, nestled on the Nungua Tema Beach Road, buzzed with activity. The theme “Jehovah’s Witnesses in Ghana-100 Years of Faith in Action, Positively Impacting Communities at the Very Core” resonated throughout the premises. The celebration provided a unique opportunity to reflect on the journey of Jehovah Witness in Ghana. It started in the 1920s when William Brown and Claude Brown, two foreign missionaries, first brought their message to Accra. The journalists toured the facilities. They saw the dedication and organization firsthand. They learned of the Witness’s extensive translation work. The Ghana headquarters oversees translations into 56 West African languages. This includes 16 Ghanaian languages. Daniel Adashie, Media Contact of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Ghana, spoke about their impact. He emphasized the positive influence on education, literacy, healthcare, and human rights. He also addressed common misunderstandings. The Jehovah Witness stance on political neutrality and bloodless medical treatments has sometimes caused confusion. He noted that the medical community was gradually becoming more accepting of bloodless treatments. Obed Owusu-Kissi, from the Public Information Desk, led the tour. He showed the various departments. These included the Bethel Office, Service, Maintenance, Health Service, Personnel, Accommodation, and Translation Departments. He explained the headquarters’ environmental conservation efforts. These efforts include water treatment, water reuse for gardening, and fish farming. All staff at the headquarters are volunteers. This fact underscores the dedication of Jehovah Witness members. The centennial celebration of Jehovah Witness in Ghana was a testament to their enduring presence and impact.
