Deep in the heart of Dortmund stands JD Theile. This name represents more than just a building. It embodies a legacy of innovation and industry that stretches back over two centuries.

Let’s journey back to 1819. Johann-Dietrich Theile built a water wheel in Villigst. It used the Elsebach stream’s power. This wheel drove a chain roller for polishing chains. Theile gathered regional home chain forges. He laid the first stone of what JD Theile is today.

Fast forward to 1873. Fritz Theile Sr. took the reins. He inherited a firm customer base and a strong reputation. He expanded both production and trade breathing new life into the company.

In 1900, Fritz Theile Jr. shaped the future. He established a factory-style production of ship and lifting chains. The forge area was expanded and modernized. Automatic mining chain manufacturing was introduced. JD Theile grew into a true chain factory.

Wilhelm Hidding stepped in during 1919. He was the son-in-law of the last Theile owner. He further developed JDT. After 1945, he significantly contributed to the mechanization of mining.

Jürgen Hidding took charge in 1959. He oversaw one of Europe’s most advanced chain factories. His vision focused on new markets. He started global expansion. The company’s administration, forge, and mechanical processing areas grew.

Jan-Dirk Hidding manages JD Theile today since 1991. He leads the company’s global expansion. It becomes a leading supplier of mining and industrial chains. The focus is on product development. Modernization and automation are implemented in production.

Throughout the years, JD Theile has consistently innovated. They introduced Grade 10 “ENORM 10” in 1994. The F-Class Chain followed in 2003. Innovations like Short Studs and Flat Points came in 2004. The TP Attachment Point with improved features emerged in 2005.

In 2008, they created the 60 mm FCC. It was the largest and strongest mining chain at the time. JDT robotics was founded in 2010. Cross-industry automation solutions followed. Grade 12 “MAXNORM 12” arrived in 2014. Lashing Equipment was introduced in 2015.

The company continued to grow. Structural expansions and new production halls were added in 2019 and 2022. New product fields opened up. JD Theile embraced the future.

JD Theile also acquired other companies. Arias Fabrik für Kunststoffverarbeitung GmbH joined in 2016. Hidde GmbH & Co. KG Automation came on board in 2020. M.A.W GmbH joined in 2022.

From its humble beginnings with a water wheel to its current status as a global leader, JD Theile stands as a testament to enduring innovation. As you stand here at JD Theile, remember the generations of dedication and ingenuity. They shaped this remarkable company. Their legacy continues to drive progress in Dortmund and beyond.
