Deep within the Australian bush, a hidden gem awaits. JC Trotter Memorial Park, a sanctuary of natural beauty, beckons you to explore its tranquil trails and discover its captivating story. JC Trotter Memorial Park is a sprawling 28-hectare bushland reserve. It was generously donated in 1958 by JC Trotter, a European landowner. His contribution helped establish the heart of this natural haven. The park is a vital part of the Brisbane Koala Bushlands, a crucial eastern wildlife corridor stretching all the way to Daisy Hill Conservation Park. Imagine yourself stepping onto the Tingalpa Creek Trail, a 2.5 km circuit that meanders along the banks of a serene water reserve lake. This section of Tingalpa Creek is protected, so swimming, fishing, and other water activities are prohibited, preserving the pristine ecosystem. As you walk, keep an eye out for the remarkable paperbark trees that line the water’s edge. These trees played a significant role in the lives of the Aboriginal people. They utilized the bark for various purposes, from bandages and medicine to cradles, sleeping mats, and even wrapping food for cooking. Interestingly, this paper-thin bark is also highly flammable. JC Trotter Memorial Park is not just a place for leisurely strolls. It is a place for quiet contemplation, a place to connect with nature, and a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of city life. While exploring the park, be sure to visit the sheltered picnic area, equipped with an electric BBQ. Keep in mind that there are no public toilets available within the park. The park’s gates open at 8 am and close at 6 pm, so plan your visit accordingly. The carpark is conveniently located about 50 meters from the road entrance, off Cherbon Street in Burbank. While JC Trotter Memorial Park is a beautiful and serene location, it’s recommended to visit with friends or family. The park’s secluded nature can sometimes attract unusual characters, so it’s best to explore in a group for safety.
