Have you ever considered where memories find their final resting place? Here at Jardines del Recuerdo in Cali we stand amidst a landscape designed for remembrance. It is more than just a cemetery. Jardines del Recuerdo is a place where stories linger and legacies are honored.

Jardines del Recuerdo offers a serene escape from the city’s hustle. This place on Avenida Guadalupe is a park cemetery. It provides a space for reflection. The office is located in San Vicente. It serves families in Cali and beyond.

Imagine a time when Jardines del Recuerdo thrived. Back then about 90 bodies arrived monthly. That’s an average of three per day. Today the numbers have dwindled drastically. Now only about three arrive each month.

One man named Pedro Domínguez remembers those busier days. He has worked at Jardines del Recuerdo for 35 years. He knows the cemetery like the back of his hand. Pedro does many jobs like administrator and secretary. He also works as a gardener, gravedigger, cleaner, painter and carpenter. Despite his hard work Pedro has not been paid in months.

Once there were 50 employees. Today only five remain accompanied by three dogs and two cats. They work tirelessly to maintain the grounds. The first country cemetery built in Colombia struggles to stay afloat. It has about 30 sections with around 500 lots in each. The broken tent does not provide enough shade. The lawnmower is not enough. The lake is empty.

Despite the challenges Jardines del Recuerdo persists. It is open daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. It offers on-site services. These include restrooms, air conditioning, customer parking and wheelchair access. The dedicated staff strives to provide comfort and support.

Jardines del Recuerdo is a reminder of life’s fleeting nature. It is a place to honor those who have passed. It is a sanctuary for memories to endure. As we leave consider the importance of remembrance. Let us carry forward the stories of those who came before us.
