Wasn’t it just yesterday that a small group of believers dreamt of a place to gather? That dream became the Jamul Community Church. From humble beginnings in 1979 this church emerged. A small group contacted the American Missionary Fellowship. They sought a missionary to lead weekly bible studies. Jesse Johnson answered their call. He became the church’s first pastor. He served faithfully until 1990. The fellowship flourished under his guidance. It grew into the vibrant Jamul Community Church we see today.
The church’s growth was remarkable. In 1987 Gary Musser joined the team. He focused on youth ministry. He later became senior pastor in 1991. The congregation continued to expand. Their need for a permanent home became apparent. They began negotiations to buy land on Jamul Drive. Members of the church did much of the building themselves. They built their home with their own hands. They poured their faith and labor into it. Their dedication is truly inspiring.
The church’s journey continued. By 2001 the church needed more space. A second property became available. New Joy Chapel was closing. They generously donated their building to the Jamul Community Church. It’s now used as offices and a student center. Finally in the spring of 2002 the church moved into its new facility. No more Sunday morning set-up hassles. This was a joyous occasion for everyone involved.
Today the Jamul Community Church thrives. It’s more than just a Sunday meeting place. It’s a place of worship. It’s a hub for dozens of ministries and groups. It serves the community throughout the week. The church’s story is a testament to faith. It is a testament to community spirit and dedication. It’s a story of growth and generosity. It’s a story worth celebrating. The Jamul Community Church continues to write its next chapter. Will you join their story?
