This included three of the first ten tournaments ever played. His golfing prowess extended internationally. He won the amateur championship of Austria twice. This was while traveling with his family. He also won the prestigious North and South Amateur at Pinehurst North Carolina. He accomplished this incredible feat at just 18 years old. But his impact extended beyond his personal achievements.
He served as president of the Detroit District Golf Association. This was the precursor to the Golf Association of Michigan. His tenure lasted from 1937 to 1947. It remains the longest presidency in the association’s history. He was a key member of the United States Golf Association. He even served as its president in 1950 and 1951. In his role as president he presented the U S Open trophy to Ben Hogan. This was after Hogan’s legendary 1951 win at Oakland Hills Country Club. His vision extended to making golf more accessible.
