In a time of rapid growth, a new community emerged in the southern part of Roskilde. This led to the construction of Jakobskirken, a modern architectural marvel designed by Lars, Gerda, and Jørgen Hartmann-Petersen. Jakobskirken wasn’t always here. The burgeoning population in the south of Roskilde in the 1950s led to the need for a new place of worship. The first services were held in 1958 in the local FDF house. It wasn’t until 1965 that the parish was officially established. Jakobskirken, completed in 1974, became a testament to this new era. The church’s striking design, with its red brick and raw concrete, reflects a departure from traditional church aesthetics. Jakobskirken is more than just a place of worship.
