Jaipur International Airport officially opened its doors on December 29, 2005. It’s located in Sanganer, a southern suburb of Jaipur. The airport is owned by the Airports Authority of India but operated by Jaipur International Airport Limited. The airport boasts two passenger terminals and a dedicated air cargo terminal, spread across 776 acres. Its single runway stretches an impressive 11,178 feet, long enough to accommodate large aircraft like the Boeing 747. A fun fact: the airport’s entrance gate showcases the region’s artistic flair. It’s constructed with Dholpur stones and sandstone and decorated with traditional Rajasthani paintings. Jaipur International Airport is well-connected. It’s about 13 km from the Jaipur Railway Station. Buses, autos, and cabs are readily available for transport to and from the city center. Inside, you’ll find a range of amenities. These include a VIP lounge, currency exchange services, dining options, medical facilities, and assistance for differently-abled passengers. Jaipur International Airport has seen significant growth since its opening. In May 2023, it handled a record 4.5 lakh passengers. The Adani Group took over operations in October 2021, under a 50-year lease from the central government. Terminal 2, opened in 2009, handles both domestic and international flights. Interestingly, Terminal 1 was initially designed for international flights. However, it was later repurposed for cargo operations before being renovated and reopened for commercial flights.
