Picture this a quaint half-timbered house perched high above the Ruhr River. This is the Jagdhaus Schellenberg. It’s more than just a restaurant. It’s a living piece of Essen’s history.

Built in 1836 it started as a humble home for the forest workers of the von Vittinghoff-Schell family. They owned the nearby Schloss Schellenberg. The family had a vision. They saw the potential of this spot. The stunning views were irresistible.

Later it transformed. The little house became a popular cafe called “Schöne Aussicht” or “Beautiful View”. This name perfectly captured the breathtaking panorama. The cafe offered guests a lovely view of the valley. They enjoyed the scenery as they sipped their coffee.

Time marched on. The Jagdhaus Schellenberg grew. It underwent several expansions. The original building proved too small. An extension was added. The Jagdhaus Schellenberg became the popular establishment it is today.

In 1999 the HOPF Group took over. They invested significantly. From 2000 to 2001 they completely renovated the place. A beautiful winter garden was added. It offers a cozy atmosphere. The extensive renovations preserved the building’s charm. It added modern comforts too.

Today the Jagdhaus Schellenberg boasts a charming rustic beer garden. It provides amazing views of the Baldeneysee lake. The restaurant is surrounded by lovely forests and hiking trails. Close by are the Korte-Klippe and the ruins of the Neue Isenburg. It’s a perfect place to unwind and appreciate nature’s beauty.

More than just a restaurant the Jagdhaus Schellenberg tells a story. It whispers tales of hardworking foresters and leisurely cafe society. It showcases the transformation of a simple home into a beloved landmark. Come experience its unique atmosphere. Enjoy the breathtaking views. Savor a piece of Essen’s rich history.
