The field wasn’t always as it is today. It started as a baseball diamond. Students started using part of it for their club football team back in 1964. They even rented temporary stands. The university eventually built permanent ones leading to the reinstatement of varsity football in 1970. The wooden stands gave way to aluminum bleachers in 1990 after Fordham football moved to Division I. Through the years Jack Coffey Field has undergone significant renovations. The natural grass gave way to FieldTurf in 2005. A state-of-the-art scoreboard and chairback seating were added later. The baseball section even received its own name Houlihan Park.
Remember the Seven Blocks of Granite? That legendary Fordham offensive line from 1936?
