G Floor Block J12. That’s where we are standing right now. This unassuming building houses the Photonics Research Centre. It’s part of the Faculty of Science New Building at the University of Malaya. Did you know this impressive structure is home to cutting-edge research?

The University of Malaya has a rich history. It began in 1905 as the King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore. It later merged with Raffles College. The university then split into two in 1959 one in Singapore and one in Kuala Lumpur. Our Faculty of Science New Building stands proudly as part of the Kuala Lumpur branch. This branch retained the name Universiti Malaya. It became the only university in newly independent Malaya.
