“To achieve excellence” – those words, etched into the Italian Hospital’s motto, echo through its history. The Italian Hospital in Haifa, a place where compassion and medical expertise have intertwined for over a century. This striking building, with its European elegance and red tile roofs, stands as a testament to a legacy of healing that began in 1907. The National Association for Aid to Italian Missionaries, driven by a mission to aid pilgrims and serve the local community, founded this haven of health. Initially located on Shivat Zion Street, the Italian Hospital eventually found its home here on Maginis Boulevard in 1933. Designed by the renowned Italian architect Antonio Barluzzi, this four-story structure has witnessed turbulent times. During the World Wars and even Israel’s War of Independence, the Italian Hospital served as a military hospital. Yet, it always returned to its civilian purpose, a beacon of hope under the care of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. These dedicated nuns, the heart and soul of the hospital, provide unwavering care to this day. The Italian Hospital in Haifa, much more than a medical center.
