Can a school be more than just bricks and mortar? At Istituto Comprensivo Paritario San Giuseppe La Salle Milano, the answer is a resounding yes. This isn’t just a school. It’s a living testament to a partnership forged in faith and a commitment to education. Istituto Comprensivo Paritario San Giuseppe La Salle Milano’s story began not within these walls, but in the heart of a priest, Don Giuseppe Del Corno. In 1925, during a visit to Rome, he witnessed the transformative power of Lasallian education at the Istituto San Giuseppe – De Merode. He envisioned that same spirit in his own parish of San Giuseppe in Crescenzago, Milan. The seed was planted. Years later, in 1939, Don Giuseppe reached out to the Istituto Gonzaga in Milan, requesting brothers to teach catechism to the local children. They began their work in the burgeoning community, even before the church building was complete. Istituto Comprensivo Paritario San Giuseppe La Salle Milano began to take shape, first in the newly finished church’s matronei in 1943 as a small elementary school. Then, remarkably, in the midst of World War II, a vocational school was added in 1944, operating from the damaged premises of a school on via Bottego. The dream outgrew its temporary homes. In 1952, on the feast day of St. Joseph, the cornerstone of Istituto Comprensivo Paritario San Giuseppe La Salle Milano was laid on the former site of Cascina Ferrera. The school’s construction was a testament to community generosity, with contributions from families, businesses, and even the renowned architect Gio Ponti. By 1954, the vocational school had moved into the new complex, followed by a middle school in 1955. That same year, the elementary school, now under the care of the Brothers of Don Calabria, joined them. Istituto Comprensivo Paritario San Giuseppe La Salle Milano became a beacon of hope and opportunity in the growing community. The school continued to evolve. The vocational school transitioned into a unified middle school with educational reform in 1963. A second building was added in 1966, providing a gymnasium, chapel, and more classrooms. By 1975, the middle school expanded to three sections, with lay teachers joining the Brothers. In 1984, Istituto Comprensivo Paritario San Giuseppe La Salle Milano opened its doors to girls. New sports facilities were built in 1990. In 1996, the Santa Marta kindergarten was integrated. In 2001, the elementary and middle schools achieved “Paritaria” status. The school celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2001-2002, coinciding with the 300th anniversary of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Italy. The Santa Marta kindergarten officially became part of the Istituto in 2007. Istituto Comprensivo Paritario San Giuseppe La Salle Milano celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2012. The school has continued to innovate, introducing new programs and facilities, including a digital laboratory with a 3D printer. Istituto Comprensivo Paritario San Giuseppe La Salle Milano stands as a symbol of resilience, collaboration, and a dedication to providing quality education.
