How about we direct our gaze to that towering structure before us? This is the IEC Tower, also known as the Israel Electric Corporation Tower. Let me tell you its story.

Completed in 2003, the IEC Tower stands tall at 130 meters. It has 30 floors. This makes it the second tallest building in Haifa. It is also the thirteenth tallest in Israel.

The IEC Tower was designed by Rozov-Hirsch Architects. Mansfeld Kehat Architects also contributed to its design. It is not just another office building. The IEC Tower is the tallest building in Israel to serve only one company. That company is the Israel Electric Corporation. They moved their headquarters here from Tel Aviv. The IEC Tower is also Haifa’s tallest office building.

You will find the IEC Tower near the MATAM business park. This business park lies outside Haifa’s central business district. In terms of roof height, the IEC Tower surpasses even the Sail Tower.

The Israel Electric Corporation plays a vital role in the country’s infrastructure. Its history dates back to 1923. Pinchas Rotenberg, a Jewish engineer, founded it as the Palestine Electric Company. Rotenberg secured concessions from the British Mandate government. He envisioned harnessing the country’s water sources to generate electricity.

The company’s initial projects included power stations in Jaffa, Haifa, and Tiberias. Rotenberg recruited talented architects to design these facilities. He sought to combine technology with aesthetics. The power plants became impressive landmarks.

The IEC faced challenges during the War of Independence. Despite financial difficulties, it continued to expand its operations. The Israeli government later purchased a majority stake in the company. This transformed it into a government entity.

Today, the Israel Electric Corporation manages a vast network of power stations and substations. It plays a crucial role in meeting the country’s energy needs. The Engineering Projects Division oversees the planning and construction of these facilities.

The IEC Tower symbolizes the company’s strength and progress. It stands as a testament to innovation. It reflects Israel’s commitment to providing reliable electricity to its citizens. As we stand here, let’s appreciate the significance of this towering structure. It powers our homes and businesses. It fuels our economy. The IEC Tower is more than just a building. It is a symbol of Israel’s energy future.
