Established in 2000, the Islamic University College, Ghana stands as a testament to collaboration and faith. The Islamic University was founded by Dr. Abdolmajid Hakimollahi under the sponsorship of the Ahlul Bait Foundation of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This university, right here in East Legon, Accra, plays a vital role in providing higher education opportunities. The Islamic University offers a diverse range of programs. These include Business Administration, Communication Studies, and Religious Studies. The university also boasts a graduate program in Islamic Studies. Initially granted provisional accreditation in 2001, the Islamic University received full accreditation in 2002, solidifying its position within Ghana’s educational landscape. The institution caters to a student body of over 5,000, with a majority of alumni residing in Ghana and others spread across West Africa and globally. This makes it one of Ghana’s fastest-growing young universities. The Islamic University’s establishment echoes a larger story. The Ahlul Bait Foundation, active in Ghana since the 1980s, has contributed to various community projects. These projects span health, agriculture, and education. The foundation’s decision to establish the Islamic University stems from a 1997 government policy shift. This policy encouraged private participation in tertiary education, aiming to broaden access for Muslim and marginalized communities. The very land we stand on, originally acquired in 1995, was re-allocated for the university. This decision highlights a commitment to education’s transformative power within the West African sub-region.
