Welcome to the International Islamic University Malaysia IIUM a place where knowledge and virtue intertwine. Founded on May 23 1983 the International Islamic University Malaysia is more than just a university. It is a vision realized. Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad conceived IIUM in 1982. He sought an institution that would champion the Islamization of knowledge.

IIUM stands distinct. Sponsored by eight governments and the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation it is a global hub for Islamic education. Unlike other universities in Malaysia, IIUM uses English and Arabic as its primary languages of instruction. This enhances its international appeal and reach.

The International Islamic University Malaysia main campus in Gombak spans 700 acres. It is a suburban haven. Besides the main campus, IIUM has six other campuses throughout Malaysia. Each campus specializes in different fields from medicine to tourism.

At IIUM Islamic values are integrated into every discipline. The university offers bachelor’s master’s and doctoral degrees across 14 faculties called Kulliyyahs. These Kulliyyahs cover diverse fields. Examples are law economics engineering and Islamic studies.

Since 1987 IIUM has produced over 70000 graduates from over 100 countries. Its alumni are making significant contributions worldwide. Notable alumni include Koutoub Moustapha Sano Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Guinea and Syed Saddiq President of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance. The International Islamic University Malaysia has also been home to influential faculty members such as Abdul Rashid Moten a professor of political science and Abdullah al-Ahsan a contemporary Muslim historian.
