The Islamic Center of Savannah serves the Muslim community in Savannah and the southern United States. It is one of the city’s few mosques. Since its beginning, the center promotes understanding about Islam. It represents a diverse community that strives to improve itself through Islamic teachings.
Established in April 2002, the Islamic Center of Savannah has grown. Land was donated by a community member. Initially, a small house served as a mosque. Tragedy struck in August 2003. Arsonists burned the building to the ground.
With support from Muslims nationwide, the community persevered. Prayers and activities continued in a rented modular building. Now, a new facility stands on the same site. This new building marks a significant achievement.
The Islamic Center of Savannah is in Chatham County south of downtown Savannah. It is near Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus. Its central location makes it accessible to all of Savannah. The Islamic Center of Savannah offers five daily prayers. Jummah Salah is at 2:00 pm.
The Islamic Center of Savannah also provides other important services. These include Nikah ceremonies and funeral services. Classes for new Muslims are available. Workshops on Islamic sciences are offered for adults and children.
