The air buzzed with anticipation as students shuffled into the halls of Isfit D. Jaime Garcia Goulart. It was the start of the 2024 academic year, and the energy was palpable. Isfit D. Jaime Garcia Goulart, a beacon of theological and philosophical study in Dili, Timor-Leste, was about to embark on a new chapter. The year began not with lectures and seminars, but with a shared spiritual experience. A special mass was held at the Sé Catedral de Dili, led by Dom Leandro Maria Alves, the esteemed Bishop of Baucau. Students, faculty, and staff, united in their pursuit of knowledge, sought guidance for the year ahead. The theme of unity resonated throughout the mass. Bishop Alves urged the Isfit D. Jaime Garcia Goulart community to work together, their service, words, and actions aligned in purpose. He reminded them of the institution’s motto, “Voz Estis Lux Mundi,” – “You are the light of the world.” The day continued with the Inaugural Lecture, a significant event in Isfit D. Jaime Garcia Goulart’s academic calendar. It was held at the Seminário Maior Fatumeta, with Father Dr. António Camnahas SVD, a respected historian from the Institut Filsafat dan Teknologi Kreatif Ledalero in Indonesia, delivering the keynote address. His chosen theme, “The Historical Discourse of the Principle of Religious Freedom, International Recognition, and its Implementation in Timor-Leste,” sparked important discussions. This marked the beginning of a promising partnership. Isfit D. Jaime Garcia Goulart had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indonesian institute, strengthening their academic ties and paving the way for future collaborations. As the day drew to a close, a sense of optimism lingered. Isfit D. Jaime Garcia Goulart, with its blend of faith and intellectual pursuit, stood ready to guide its students towards becoming the light of the world.
