But this beautiful monument faced a tragic event. In 2022 vandals severely damaged the statue. Its head was found broken on the ground. Authorities acted swiftly. They filed a report for the depredation of cultural property. The Instituto de Antropología e Historia IDAEH is working on the restoration. They’re committed to preserving this historical legacy for future generations.
