Tucked away in Outremont’s northern reaches lies Irma-LeVasseur Park. It’s more than just a green space. It’s a testament to community involvement and urban renewal.
Irma-LeVasseur Park isn’t just a park. It’s a significant part of the larger MIL Montreal urban project. This ambitious initiative transformed four hectares of underutilized land into vibrant public spaces. Irma-LeVasseur Park is the largest of these new green havens. It’s almost 18 500 square meters of green. It encompasses part of a former road yard. It even integrates the original smaller Irma-LeVasseur Park.
The park’s creation wasn’t a top-down affair. The city embraced a participatory approach. Citizens were involved in shaping its design from the beginning. Through workshops and surveys. Their voices helped decide the park’s layout. Its atmosphere and its purpose. Three phases of public participation ensured a community-driven outcome. The final design reflected the wants and needs of Outremont residents.
Imagine the dedication that went into its design. From the initial vision in winter 2022. Through the preliminary design workshops in June 2023. To the final concept presentation in November 2023. Every step involved the community. Making sure it was a truly inclusive space.
Irma-LeVasseur Park isn’t merely a place of rest and relaxation. It is a symbol of renewal. A green lung in the heart of a developing neighborhood. Bounded by Boulevard Dollard to the west. Ruelle du Manoir and the future Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Board school to the north. Avenue Wiseman to the east and Avenue Ducharme to the south.
Construction is set to begin in 2025. The park along with Avenue Dollard is scheduled to open in 2026. It will be a place to unwind. To reconnect with nature in the urban setting. A beautiful testament to community spirit and city planning. It’s more than a park; it’s a shared dream realized. A vibrant space waiting to welcome you.
