Gazing at the unassuming Interchalet building, one might not guess its global reach. This Freiburg-based company, established in 1974 by Michael Heines, isn’t just a local office. Interchalet is a major player in the world of vacation rentals. It connects travelers with over 40,000 holiday homes and apartments across 28 countries. Interchalet is part of the Interhome Group, and together with its sister brand Interhome, they accommodated over 820,000 guests in 2020. That translates to a staggering CHF 236.7 million in revenue. Think about it, right here in Freiburg, a company orchestrates dream vacations across continents. From cozy cottages in the French countryside to sleek city apartments, Interchalet curates a diverse portfolio of holiday homes. They’ve partnered with major platforms like Booking.com and Airbnb, expanding their reach even further. In 2011, the Swiss Hotelplan Group, a subsidiary of the Migros Group, acquired a 27% stake in Interchalet. This acquisition was completed in 2013. Although Interchalet is now part of a larger corporation, its roots remain firmly planted here in Freiburg. It’s a testament to the vision of its founder, Michael Heines, who saw the potential for connecting people with unique and memorable vacation experiences.
