The Instituto Arcediago Van Zeller has been nurturing young minds for decades. It started as a pre-school and expanded to offer a range of educational services. Located at Rua de Vilar, 94, the Instituto Arcediago Van Zeller became a cornerstone of the community. It originally had a capacity for 100 children. It currently serves 54 children. The institute’s namesake, Rolando van Zeller, was a prominent figure in Porto. He was a respected physician and surgeon. He served as the director of the Obstetrics ward at Santo António Hospital. Interestingly, Rolando van Zeller wasn’t just a medical professional. He was also deeply involved in the cultural life of Porto. He served as a city councilor for culture. He held leadership positions in various organizations, including the Catholic Association of Porto. He was also involved with the Asilo de Vilar, which later became the Instituto Arcediago Richard van Zeller. Although Rolando van Zeller had a distinguished career in medicine and civic life, the Instituto Arcediago Van Zeller is specifically named after Richard van Zeller. This suggests a close familial connection and shared dedication to social causes. While the institute primarily focuses on early childhood education, its history is intertwined with the broader van Zeller family legacy. Their contributions to Porto’s medical, cultural, and social landscape are undeniable. The Instituto Arcediago Van Zeller stands as a testament to their enduring impact.
