What if walls could talk? What stories would these walls of the Institute of Health Science whisper? Here at the Institute of Health Science, nestled within the grounds of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, they would tell tales of nurturing future generations of healthcare heroes. The Institute of Health Science wasn’t always here at this university. Originally, the Level 4 Diploma programmes in Nursing, Midwifery, and Paramedic were offered at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah (PAPRSB) Institute of Health Science. In 2015, these programs transitioned to Politeknik Brunei, marking the birth of the School of Health Sciences. This move reflected a growing national need for skilled healthcare professionals. The Institute of Health Science here at UBD boasts state-of-the-art facilities. There are top-class lecture halls, a purpose-built simulation center, and a clinical skills laboratory. Students can hone their skills in a safe and controlled environment, practicing procedures and developing their clinical acumen. The Institute also provides an anatomy resource room and computing resources, giving students access to the tools they need to excel. The Institute of Health Science’s mission goes beyond technical skills. They strive to cultivate well-rounded healthcare professionals. Individuals who are not just competent but also innovative, creative, and socially responsible. Rooted in the values of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB), the Institute emphasizes service to the community. This focus on cultural values ensures that graduates are not only skilled practitioners but also compassionate caregivers. The Institute of Health Science represents Brunei’s dedication to providing quality healthcare education. A dedication reflected in the architecture of this very building, designed to be user-friendly and learner-centric. The interplay of spaces and landscaped areas fosters a conducive learning environment. The clustered, multi-modal learning settings allow students to discover the study methods that best suit their individual needs.
