Did you know that the Institut Redouté-Peiffer emerged from the fusion of two distinct schools? This merger happened in September 1996. It brought together the Institut Pierre-Joseph Redouté and the Institut Serge Peiffer. Today, we explore the legacy of this combined institution.

The Institut Redouté-Peiffer stands as a secondary technical and professional school in Anderlecht. Anderlecht is part of the Brussels Capital Region. It operates under the control of the French Community Commission or COCOF. Previously, it was the provincial college of the Province of Brabant.

The Institut Pierre-Joseph Redouté owes its name to a celebrated figure. He was a painter of roses and a watercolourist. Pierre-Joseph Redouté was born in Saint-Hubert in the 18th century. His artistic legacy lives on through the institute’s dedication to horticulture.

In 1913, the provincial college of Brabant established a gardening school. Over the years, new sections were added. These included floriculture and fruit arboriculture. Also added were floristry, additional subjects for horticultural professionals, and a high school for landscape gardening. These advanced sections now form the Lucia de Brouckère high School – Institut Arthur Haulot.

Serge Peiffer also left his mark on the Institut Redouté-Peiffer. He was an alumnus of the institute. He was a Doctor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and a Diplomate of the Université libre de Bruxelles or ULB. Peiffer was also a dedicated field researcher.

The Institut Redouté-Peiffer has evolved to meet modern needs. It offers new subjects relevant to today’s world. Its education prepares students for both employment and higher studies.

Students at the Institut Redouté-Peiffer have diverse educational paths. They can pursue a general education, a transitional technical course, or professional technical qualification education. Areas of study include horticulture, science, and economics. Other options include photography, physical education, sport, and cuisine.

The Institut Redouté-Peiffer boasts impressive facilities across multiple sites. These include glasshouses, a rock garden, and plant collections. An arboretum and horticultural study sites at Tubize and Pamel offer hands-on learning. Laboratories support studies in general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. Also, there are labs for pharmacology, cosmetology, physical education, and biology.

For technology and economics, there are information technology labs. Multimedia rooms enhance the learning experience. Photography students benefit from a studio, graphics laboratory, and darkrooms. Sports rooms are available at both sites, promoting physical well-being. Self-service refectories provide convenient meal options.

Located in Anderlecht, the school spans several sites. These include Redouté at 1 Av. Marius Renard. Peiffer is located on the Campus du Ceria in building 4 B. Practical sites are located at a place called “Bon Air”.

The Institut Redouté-Peiffer provides varied options in technical and professional secondary education. Since September 2024, a course for Heavy Goods Vehicle Drivers has been offered. The school also organizes a DASPA. These are bridging classes for newly arrived students. The Institut Redouté-Peiffer offers support to help students succeed. The Institut Redouté-Peiffer continues to cultivate minds and shape futures.
