What if trees whispered tales of Victorian pleasure? Injebreck whispers stories of scenic beauty. It overlooks the Baldwin reservoir. Injebreck plantation is a place of tranquility.

Let me tell you about Injebreck’s past. It is a blend of nature and recreation. The main planting years were 1959, 1967, 1984 and 1990. Injebreck consists of 29 hectares. It has mainly Sitka Spruce and Japanese Larch. In 1990, 1.7 hectares were restocked. Douglas Fir, Scots Pine and Hybrid Larch were planted. A selection of mixed broadleaves was added on the lowest slope.

A mature crop of trees was felled on the Southern edge in 1995. Once Injebreck was a Victorian pleasure ground. People enjoyed its attractions. The reservoir was created in 1905. Douglas Corporation built it. It cost £100000. The reservoir holds approx 300 million gallons of water.

The reservoir is also known locally as Injebreck. It sits on the site of an old village. Remains can be seen when water levels drop low. The reservoir is 41.5 acres. Its maximum depth reaches 26 metres.

Anglers appreciate Injebreck reservoir. It is stocked with rainbow trout. These trout weigh from 2lb upwards. Some even reach double figures. Stocking occurs regularly between March and October. An Isle of Man Government Reservoir Licence is required.

Fishing is possible from the dam wall. Most of the east and west banks are accessible. Some stretches are fairly overgrown. Lucky visitors might encounter wild brown trout. When water levels are high, angling platforms are available. Three platforms are on the west bank. One platform is wheelchair accessible. A key is required for the ramp gate. It also accesses the disabled users’ car park.

Injebreck is also a designated Dark Sky Discovery Site. Stargazers can enjoy stunning views of the Manx skies. Interpretation Boards are on site to help. The stargazing site is a large flat area. It is surrounded by fences and walls.

Imagine Injebreck transformed. A bustling hub of Victorian entertainment fades. The tranquil reservoir emerges. Nature reclaims the land. Injebreck offers a peaceful retreat. Visitors reflect on its dual history.

Remember Injebreck’s story. From Victorian pleasure grounds to serene plantation. Injebreck continues to evolve. It offers beauty and recreation. The whispering trees watch over Injebreck’s transformation.
