It all started with a determined priest, Father George Johnson, and a dream of a new church for his parish in Prague, Oklahoma. But resources were scarce, the dream seemed distant. He placed his faith in a statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague, brought from Bakersfield, California, promising to dedicate the new church to the Infant Jesus if his prayers were answered. And answered they were! Donations poured in, exceeding all expectations. True to his word, Father Johnson built the church in Oklahoma. That church, dedicated to St. Wenceslaus, became the National Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague. While not the original building, the Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church here in Harvey carries on that legacy of faith and answered prayers.
