“What does love look like to you?” I ask. Here at AREA15, it takes the form of Michael Benisty’s captivating sculpture: In Every Lifetime I Will Find You.
This artwork isn’t just something pretty to look at. In Every Lifetime I Will Find You is a symbol. It represents love unity and the magnetic connections that bind us. Benisty believes our souls are linked across lifetimes. We meet people who teach us profound lessons about love and life.
In Every Lifetime I Will Find You first appeared at Burning Man. The artist wanted to create a shimmer of silver barely visible in the distance. He wanted it to draw people in. As they approached, he wanted them to feel the sculpture’s magic. Are the figures dancing? Are they kissing? Are they protecting each other? That is up to you to decide.
Burning Man offers an immersive experience impossible to replicate in a gallery. The desert’s harsh elements transform the artwork. Daytime heat, nighttime cold, wind and dust all play their part. Benisty felt incredibly honored to share something that evoked so much emotion.
In Every Lifetime I Will Find You has found a permanent home here at AREA15. Before it was here it was acquired by a collector who loaned the artwork to the city of Oslo for a public display. It now lives in Las Vegas.
The sculpture embodies connection. It also embodies the spirit of AREA15. It alters your perception of reality. It makes you think. It makes you feel. It encourages you to connect with others. It offers a unique physical and emotional playground.
Take a moment to reflect on your own connections. Consider the people who have shaped your life. Think about the lessons they have taught you. As you gaze upon In Every Lifetime I Will Find You, let it remind you of the enduring power of love. Let it remind you of the connections that transcend time and space. Let this work encourage you to find love In Every Lifetime.
