It began humbly in 1907 as a shared space with Methodists and Presbyterians. Eighteen souls, guided by Houston’s First Baptist Church, formed the core of this congregation. They quickly built their first sanctuary. In 1908, Immanuel Baptist Church officially joined the Union Baptist Association, marking its place in the city’s religious landscape. The church’s story is one of constant outreach. In 1952, the Prairie Gardens mission was born from Immanuel’s dedication, eventually blossoming into its own church. By the 1970s, Immanuel Baptist Church shifted its focus to youth and children’s programs. Their influence extended beyond Texas, supporting churches and missions in New York, Indiana, and New Jersey. They even commissioned members for missionary work abroad. Immanuel Baptist Church adapted to the changing needs of its community. In the late 20th century, they extended a hand to the growing Hispanic population. In 1993, members of Jezreel Baptist Church, a Hispanic congregation, joined Immanuel Baptist Church.
