Ilsandong-gu was created on May 16, 2005. Before that, it was part of Ilsan-gu. Ilsan-gu was divided into two districts. Ilsandong means east of Ilsan. Ilsanseo means west.
Ilsandong-gu is divided into eleven neighborhoods. These are called “dong” in Korean. Siksa-dong is one of these neighborhoods. Jungsan-dong is another. Pungsan-dong and Baekseok-dong are also part of Ilsandong-gu. Madu-dong is also there. Janghang-dong and Gobong-dong are also included.
