What secrets does Ihringshausen hold? Our journey begins in 1043. A royal decree, signed by King Henry III himself, mentions a place called “Iringeshusun”. This document speaks of an estate, a valuable piece of land. Was Ihringshausen already a bustling village then? The historical record remains tantalizingly silent. Ihringshausen reemerges from the mists of time in 1527. The Protestant Reformation sweeps across Europe, leaving its mark on this quiet village. By 1585, Ihringshausen had gained the right to hold its own religious services. The spiritual heart of Ihringshausen, the church in the village center, opened its doors in 1738. It continues to serve the community to this day. Ihringshausen wasn’t always easily accessible. Until the mid-18th century, only a few footpaths connected it to the outside world. Even the post coach was an infrequent visitor. Imagine the isolation! The arrival of the Kassel-Hannover railway line in the mid-19th century transformed Ihringshausen. The railway brought connection and progress. Soon after, the Veckerhagener Straße, a vital artery to Kassel, was built. Electricity arrived in 1912, and gas in 1916. Ihringshausen also played a role in the burgeoning industrial age. In 1902, a shoemaker named Kompenhans opened a workshop, a business that endures as a shoe store today. The same year saw the establishment of a butcher shop and a general store. Also in 1902, the “Neue Bahnhofswirtschaft”, a railway tavern, changed hands. The Hahn AG, a subsidiary of Goerz AG, opened a factory on the Eichhecke in 1907. Here, Sylvester Wöhrle’s groundbreaking security door locks were manufactured. The patent for this invention was later sold to Zeiss-Ikon, who continue to produce these locks. From brown coal mining on Möncheberg to a whimsical miniature village built after World War I, Ihringshausen has seen it all. Ihringshausen even played a small but significant role in the closing days of World War II. On April 4, 1945, after a night of artillery fire, American troops approached from Kassel. The mayor, Johannes Bickel, who had served since 1917, surrendered Ihringshausen without a fight. In 1970, Ihringshausen became part of the newly formed municipality of Fuldatal, a testament to its enduring importance in the region.
