The Igreja Românica de Santa Maria de Gondar’s story is intertwined with the Gundares lineage. They were a family who achieved fame in the region during the Middle Ages. The extinction of the monastery in 1455 hastened their disappearance. The Gundares used the abbey to welcome their daughters. They transformed it into a family mausoleum.
