Aboim da Nóbrega was once its own council. However in 1855 it was absorbed into Vila Verde. The Igreja Paroquial de Aboim however continued to serve its community. The records tell of five confraternities thriving within the parish. These included the Confraria do Santíssimo Sacramento Confraria do Nome de Deus Confraria da Santíssima Trindade Confraria de Nossa Senhora do Rosário and Confraria do Subsino. A brotherhood of clergy was also dedicated to the Santíssima Trindade.
