The story of faith in the Galápagos is quite interesting. The islands are more than just lava, finches, and turtles. They represent a hub of faith. Here, service and sacrifice have created a special unity. This is a fortress of extraordinary conviction.

In 1997, a tour guide named André Degel was visiting Quito. He walked by a Latter-day Saints meetinghouse. Though a member, he had been less active since moving to the Galápagos. He felt a comforting feeling. So he decided to attend the meeting. This decision would later change hundreds of lives.

At that time, there was no formal Church organization on the islands. Leaders didn’t even know members lived there. André was introduced to the mission president. Soon after, boxes of Church materials were sent to André in Puerto Ayora. This included a list of members living on the islands.

Mariana Becerra had a difficult life before the Church was established. She moved to the islands in 1990. She says it was hard living without the Church. David and Jeanneth Palacios had a similar experience. They thought they were the only members there.

One day in 1997, André found Jeanneth and said, “I’m looking for Jeanneth de Palacios. Are you a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormon church?” Jeanneth felt like the Lord was gathering his sheep. Soon, the members began meeting regularly.

The Iglesia Universal del Reino de Dios, like other faiths represented in the Galápagos. It contributes to the spiritual well-being of its followers. It also highlights the importance of community and faith in these unique islands. This church provides a place for locals and visitors alike to find solace. It is a place for worship in this extraordinary corner of the world.
