Nestled in the heart of Alcorcón, the Iglesia San Saturnino stands as a testament to modern religious architecture. The church’s story begins in the vibrant 1970s. Alcorcón was experiencing a population boom. The community needed a spiritual center. The renowned architect Luis Cubillo de Arteaga answered this call. He designed the Iglesia San Saturnino with a distinct post-conciliar style. Cubillo’s work emphasized simplicity. The church’s stunning stained-glass windows, crafted by his collaborator Arcadio Blasco, became a focal point. The Iglesia San Saturnino truly embodies Cubillo’s vision of “simplicity in the sacred.” Officially established on June 15, 1970, the Iglesia San Saturnino initially held services in a temporary location. The congregation gathered at the chapel of Colegio Amor de Dios. The first baptisms took place there in January 1971. The church’s first priest, Father Luis Blanco Cerezo, served the community for an impressive 31 years. He guided the Iglesia San Saturnino from 1971 to 2002. The original structure included the main church building, a bell tower, and three rooms for catechism classes. In 1973, the church introduced adult catechumenate classes. These classes sparked the formation of a Neocatechumenal community. The community focuses on a journey of faith. It guides members to rediscover the significance of baptism. As the congregation grew, the Iglesia San Saturnino needed to expand. In 1995, during its 25th anniversary, the church underwent a significant renovation. The addition of the Catecumenium provided more space for the growing community. Six new rooms were built above the existing parish halls. Today, these spaces host various pastoral activities and liturgical celebrations. The Iglesia San Saturnino has welcomed many priests throughout its history. Currently, Father Jesús M. de las Heras Sánchez leads the parish. He is supported by Father Jerónimo Andrés and Father Alejandro Palma. Father Faustino Moreno Villalba holds the esteemed title of emeritus.
