Across the vibrant tapestry of Cali’s religious landscape, the Iglesia Pentecostal Unida de Colombia stands as a testament to faith and resilience. The church, often referred to as IPUC, traces its origins back to a momentous day in 1937. A Danish missionary, Aksel Verner Larsen, arrived in Colombia, sent by the Fellowship of Full Gospel Churches of the Maritime District of Canada. This marked the beginning of a spiritual journey that would shape the lives of countless Colombians. Larsen’s arrival wasn’t without its dramatic twists. He encountered Charles and Clara Berchtold, missionaries who had been preaching Trinitarian doctrine. After hearing Larsen speak of the Oneness of God, they embraced his teachings and were rebaptized, along with a group of fifty-two believers, in the name of Jesus Christ. This pivotal event unfolded in the Servitá River, with Larsen himself bearing witness. That very night, they held a service at a farm called Loma del Salado, near Enciso in Santander. They prayed for God’s power, and according to their accounts, the Holy Spirit descended upon them. The Iglesia Pentecostal Unida de Colombia grew from these humble beginnings. Over the years, the church faced its share of persecution, particularly during the tumultuous period of “La Violencia” in Colombia. Stories abound of believers facing ostracization, violence, and even the threat of having their homes burned. Yet, their faith remained unshaken. They persevered, holding onto their beliefs amidst adversity. Today, the Iglesia Pentecostal Unida de Colombia has blossomed into one of the largest Oneness Pentecostal denominations in the country. With thousands of congregations and over a million followers, it continues to spread its message across Colombia and beyond. The church also maintains a strong missionary presence, with efforts in numerous countries across the globe. From Argentina to Venezuela, from Europe to Africa, the Iglesia Pentecostal Unida de Colombia carries its message of faith and hope to diverse communities around the world. Standing here, before the Iglesia Pentecostal Unida de Colombia, one can sense the echoes of its rich history. A history marked by both struggle and triumph. It is a testament to the enduring power of faith, the resilience of the human spirit, and the unifying force of belief.
