The Iglesia Ni Cristo’s story began in the Philippines. Brother Felix Y Manalo founded it. The church was officially registered on July 27 1914. From its humble beginnings in Punta Santa Ana Manila the Iglesia Ni Cristo spread rapidly. It reached neighboring provinces in Luzon Visayas and Mindanao.
When Brother Felix Manalo died on April 12 1963 the church had established districts in many provinces. In 1968 under Brother Eraño G Manalo the church expanded internationally. The first congregations outside the Philippines were in Honolulu Hawaii and San Francisco California.
The Iglesia Ni Cristo continued to grow across North America Europe Australia Asia and Africa. By the end of the 1980s congregations existed in many countries. The first congregation in Latin America was established in Guantanamo Bay Cuba in 1990. Churches were founded in Rome Jerusalem and Athens.
At the start of the new millennium the Iglesia Ni Cristo reached South America. Before Brother Eraño passed away on August 31 2009 the church continued to spread worldwide. Under the leadership of Brother Eduardo V Manalo the church continues to thrive. Its membership is constantly increasing.
Thousands of ministers and officers are being added globally. Houses of worship and edifices continue to be built and renovated. This includes places not only in the Philippines but also in other countries. The houses of worship in Washington DC Barcelona and Amsterdam were dedicated in recent years. On July 21 2014 the Iglesia Ni Cristo inaugurated the Philippine Arena. It is currently the world’s largest mixed-use indoor theater. This megastructure in Ciudad de Victoria Bocaue Bulacan hosted the church’s centennial celebration on July 27 2014. Millions of members from around the world attended.
The Iglesia Ni Cristo believes it is the true church founded by Jesus Christ. They say that its registration in the Philippines fulfills biblical prophecies.
