Dedicated to the Agustinos. Iglesia La Vid stands as more than just a religious building. It embodies a community’s spirit. This church, whose motto is “Your family in the neighborhood,” has a rich history tied to the area’s social movements.
Iglesia La Vid’s story began in April 1971. It was first known as Parroquia de San Servando. Services were held in the small chapel of Nuestra Señora del Pilar. This chapel was unique. It belonged to both San Sebastián de los Reyes and Alcobendas.
In 1974, the parish moved to a new location. It was on Calle María Auxiliadora. This move marked a name change. The church became known as Nuestra Señora de la Vid. The name connects it to the Agustinos monastery of La Vid in Burgos. It also relates to the vineyards once covering Cerro del Tambor.
The Iglesia La Vid we see today opened on December 6, 1987. Architects Luis del Rey and José María Larragueta designed it. Cardinal Ángel Suquía, the Archbishop of Madrid, consecrated it. The new building symbolized new opportunities. It served the community, the neighborhood, and the entire city.
Iglesia La Vid has always been deeply involved in its community. José Luis, the parish priest, says the church helped start the first senior center in Sanse. It also pushed for more bus stops. This made the city more accessible for residents.
The church continues to support its community. It runs food and clothing distribution centers. It also advocates for affordable housing. This shows its commitment to meeting local needs.
Over the past fifty years, both the city and Iglesia La Vid have evolved. According to José Luis, the church is now in a peaceful phase. It has adapted to social and health changes. It even has its own website and social media presence.
In 2021, Iglesia La Vid celebrated its 50th anniversary. The celebrations started early in the year. They continued until April 2022. A gala was held at the Teatro Adolfo Marsillach. Many people participated. The events were shared on the church’s website and social media.
The 50th anniversary was officially celebrated on November 20, 2021. Archbishop of Madrid D. Carlos Osorio led the eucharist. Many friends who had been part of the church’s history attended.
Iglesia La Vid stands as a testament to faith. It also shows community engagement. Its history reflects the changing face of San Sebastián de los Reyes. It remains a vital part of the neighborhood. It provides spiritual guidance and social support.
