Ready to discover a place of faith? Right here before us stands Iglesia Jesucristo. It is more than just a building. It is a beacon of hope and community in Cali.
Let’s step back a moment. Imagine Cali in 1966. Elder Spencer W. Kimball dedicated Colombia for preaching the Gospel. This act laid the foundation for the Church’s growth here. By 1971 a mission was established. The Church’s presence grew significantly. In 1977 the first stake was organized. Almost 12000 members called Colombia home then.
Today Colombia is home to over 215000 Saints. They gather in nearly 260 congregations. This growth reflects the deep connection people feel with their faith. Iglesia Jesucristo plays a vital role in this community.
But what can you expect if you visit Iglesia Jesucristo? Perhaps you feel a little nervous visiting a church for the first time. That is completely normal. The community here welcomes everyone. You will find support no matter where you are on your spiritual journey.
Services here follow a familiar pattern. There is a main meeting for everyone. Afterward classes split by age or interest. These meetings aim to help you connect. Connect with God and with each other.
Many members attend services alone each week. If you would like company, you can ask local missionaries to accompany you. There is no pressure to participate. Feel free to observe and enjoy the service. If you feel comfortable, you can participate in taking communion or answering questions.
What should you wear? Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. Many attendees dress in their “Sunday best”. This might include button-down shirts, ties, dresses, or skirts. The most important thing is to come as you are.
The main Sunday meeting is the sacrament meeting. Here members take communion to remember Jesus. There are also songs, prayers, and sermons given by members of the congregation. In addition to this meeting, there are classes for children and adults. These classes provide lessons and discussions based on scriptures.
Looking ahead, exciting things are planned for the Church in Cali. The First Presidency announced the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cali Colombia Temple. It will take place on March 1, 2025. Elder Jorge T. Becerra will preside over the event. This temple will be located on 3.14 acres in La Flora. Plans include a single-story temple of about 9500 square feet. President Nelson announced this temple in April 2021. The Cali Colombia Temple is the third announced temple in Colombia. The others operate in Bogota, Barranquilla, and Medellin.
The Iglesia Jesucristo is part of a global community. The Church helps those in need worldwide. It feeds the hungry, clothes the naked, and serves in communities.
