The Iglesia Evangélica Bautista de Getafe itself emerged from humble beginnings. In 1968, the nearby Villaverde congregation saw a need. There were families in Getafe yearning for a spiritual home. The dream started small. Meetings took place in homes. One such haven was the home of Doña María Varas on Calle Madrid.
By 1977, the growing community secured a rented space on Avenida de los Ángeles. First number 17, then the larger number 15. They were nurtured by Pastor Julio Marañón from the mother church. He acted as interim pastor for this budding mission. The desire for autonomy grew strong. On June 3, 1984, they expressed their wish to the Villaverde church. Their pastor was Ángel Martínez Samperio. The official act of establishment took place on February 2, 1985. Pastor Antonio Galvao, a missionary from the Convenção Batista Brasileira, led the newly independent church.
A pivotal moment arrived in 1995. Under Pastor Raúl García Gonzalvo, the church embarked on a new chapter. They left their small rented space. They temporarily held services in the Juan de la Cierva Civic Center, thanks to the generosity of Getafe’s Department of Culture. This transition paved the way for a much-anticipated dream: a new church building. The land was granted by the city council. After years of anticipation, the Iglesia Evangélica Bautista de Getafe opened its doors. December 2001 marked the inauguration of the current church on Avenida Francisco Fernández Ordóñez. This marked a significant milestone. The church flourished under Pastor Pedro Gil Lloreda. Later, in 2019, Elí Russbel Figueroa Quiroz joined as assistant pastor.
