Built in the heart of the city, the Iglesia del Nazareno is a testament to the enduring spirit of the Nazarene Church in Nicaragua. Its history reaches back to the 1940s, when a Nicaraguan man, Dr. David Ramírez, returned to his homeland with a burning desire to share his newfound faith. He had found solace in the Nazarene Church in Chicago, and the message of holiness resonated deeply within him. Driven by this passion, he embarked on a journey of spreading the gospel throughout Nicaragua.

In 1943, his persistent prayers and letters finally brought forth the first American missionaries, Harold and Evelyn Stanfield, to this country. Their arrival marked a turning point, paving the way for the church’s growth and expansion. The first Sunday school was held in San Jorge, with 24 people in attendance. That very night, 8 individuals accepted Christ. Later that year, the first congregation, comprised of 19 members, was officially established in San Jorge. This marked the birth of the Nazarene Church in Nicaragua.
