The Mount Sinai Holy Church of America’s story began with Ida B. Robinson. In 1924, Robinson founded this organization. It became unique as the only one led by a woman for many years.
Robinson’s journey started with a divine revelation. She fasted and prayed for ten days. During this time, she heard the Holy Ghost. It instructed her to come out on Mount Sinai.
On May 20 1924, Pennsylvania granted a charter. This established the Mount Sinai Holy Church of America. It was officially incorporated.
The church’s doctrine emphasizes key principles. It upholds the authority of Scripture and belief in the Trinity. Conversion and salvation through Jesus Christ are central. Sanctification and baptism in the Holy Spirit are also important.
Mount Sinai Holy Church believes in divine healing. However, it does not exclude medical care. They emphasize holiness in life. The church practices water baptism by immersion. They also observe the Lord’s Supper and foot washing.
Gender equality stands out in their beliefs. Both men and women have equal rights. This applies to ordination and church roles.
Ida B. Robinson led as Senior Bishop and President. She served from 1924 to 1946. Her leadership set a strong foundation. In April 1946, she visited churches in Florida. Sadly, she passed away in Winter Haven. At that time, the denomination included 84 churches.
Elmira Jeffries succeeded Robinson. She served from 1946 to 1964. Jeffries was a founding member. She became the first vice-president. She led the church to purchase a hospital. It was later named The Elmira Jeffries Memorial Home.
Mary E. Jackson followed as President. She served from 1964 to 1983. Jackson was also a charter member. She created the National Youth Department.
Amy B. Stevens led from 1983 to 2000. She established the Mount Sinai Training Institute. Stevens expanded ministry to Guyana and Cuba.
Ruth E. Satchell served briefly from 2000 to 2001. She held the title of President Emeritus. Satchell continued to serve as a bishop. She resigned in 2001.
Joseph H. Bell, Sr. became the first male president. He served from 2001 to 2015. Bell created national church departments.
Emanuel Holland took office in December 2015. He was the first president from the Southern District. Bishop Holland passed away on October 7 2023.
