“I” for Individuality A unique monument awaits you. Welcome to the ICH-Denkmal. This isn’t your average monument. It’s an interactive artwork. Designed by Hans Traxler it was installed in 2005. It sits in Frankfurt’s Mainuferanlage. It’s between the Gerbermühl and Rudererdorf.
The ICH-Denkmal is a stone pedestal. On its front the word ICH meaning “I” is boldly displayed in gold. Climb the three steps to the top. You become the artwork. Traxler’s vision was simple. Everyone is unique.
Strike a pose. Get your picture taken. Selfies are discouraged. The experience is about more than just a quick photo. It’s about celebrating individuality. The ICH-Denkmal is part of a larger collection. It’s called Komische Kunst. This translates to “comic art”. The Regionalpark RheinMain Südwest GmbH funded this project. Many other artistic installations are part of this initiative.
The ICH-Denkmal is in a lovely location. It’s close to several restaurants along the Mainufer. You can easily combine a visit to the monument with a delightful lunch or dinner. It’s accessible. However the three steps might be a challenge for some.
