From humble beginnings in a small classroom twenty people gathered. This was the start of the International Central Gospel Church ICGC. Now known as Christ Temple it stands tall in Accra Ghana. ICGC wasn’t always a grand structure. Its journey began on February 26 1984. Dr Mensa Otabil’s vision brought together a small congregation. For two years they met in borrowed spaces. Classrooms private homes even a cinema theatre hosted their services.
Membership steadily increased. By April 1986 around 180 adults attended regularly. The need for a permanent home was clear. In May 1986 ICGC found a temporary home. They rented the Baden Powell Memorial Hall a Norge scout hall. This became their sanctuary for a decade. During those ten years ICGC’s growth was phenomenal. Membership exploded exceeding 4000. This wasn’t just local growth. ICGC planted churches aggressively. New assemblies sprang up throughout Ghana. The church also expanded into Europe and the United States.
The original Christ Temple Assembly planted over forty churches in Accra and Tema alone. This demonstrates ICGC’s far-reaching impact. In 1988 a ministerial institute was established. It aimed to train future leaders. This six-month certificate program grew into something incredible. It evolved into Central University College a prestigious private university in Ghana. That same year ICGC launched Central Aid. This was an educational scholarship program. It supported needy pre-tertiary students. Central Aid became Ghana’s largest non-governmental scholarship initiative.
Today ICGC boasts an estimated 50000 attendees. It has approximately 1150 branches across Africa Europe Canada and the United States. ICGC’s influence extends far beyond its physical presence. Its commitment to social consciousness human dignity and excellence is evident. It is reflected in its educational and charitable works. Its mission is to make disciples build churches and influence society through Christ. The church’s logo a globe highlighting Africa with four pillars represents its global vision and core values of doctrine prayer fellowship and breaking of bread.
