Centuries of conflict shaped these fields. We stand at the Hühnerbergwiesen von Oberursel. This nature reserve tells a tale of illegal land clearing and enduring disputes.

These meadows cover 21.66 hectares. They became a protected area in 1986. The Hühnerbergwiesen von Oberursel consist of two sections. These are known as In der unteren Hühnerburg, In der mittleren Hühnerburg and In der oberen Hühnerburg.

Imagine farmers from Oberhöchstadt. In the 16th century, they illegally cleared this land. This sparked centuries of disputes. The farmers clashed with the markers of the Hohe Mark. Only in the 18th century did the conflict end. The farmers finally gained ownership.

The Hühnerbergwiesen von Oberursel lie above the B455. They stretch along the slope of the Hühnerberg. Below the nature reserve lies the Hauburgstein.

In 2008, the area was designated a FFH area. This designation matched the area and name of the nature reserve.

These meadows represent a nearly extinct type of meadow. They are among the last larger, unfertilized meadows in the Taunus. They feature a mix of different meadow types. You can see fresh meadows, as well as purple moor grass meadows. Also present are wet meadows and mat grass lawns.

These diverse habitats support rare species. The Wald Läusekraut thrives here. You can also spot the Gelb Segge and Kriech Weide. The Geflecktes Knabenkraut and Breitblättriges Knabenkraut add to the floral display.

Sadly, some species have disappeared. Arnika is now gone. The same is true for Gelbes Sonnenröschen and Männliches Knabenkraut.

These meadows provide a habitat for rare insects. Birds and mammals also live here. The Hühnerbergwiesen von Oberursel are a haven for biodiversity.

Imagine the sounds of nature surrounding you. Hear the buzzing of insects. Listen to the calls of birds. The Hühnerbergwiesen von Oberursel offer a sensory experience. They connect you to the natural world.

The Hühnerbergwiesen von Oberursel stand as a reminder. They show us the importance of preserving our natural heritage. The history of conflict and preservation is etched into this landscape. This area is now a protected space. It safeguards biodiversity and offers a glimpse into the past. Take a moment to appreciate the Hühnerbergwiesen von Oberursel.
