Huddlestone Arch isn’t your typical park bridge. It’s a testament to nature’s power and human ingenuity. Completed in 1866, Huddlestone Arch stands as a gateway to Central Park’s North Woods. Co-creators Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux envisioned this area as a wild escape. They wanted it to evoke the feeling of the Catskills or Adirondacks. And they succeeded. Huddlestone Arch is more than just a bridge. It’s a portal to a different world, a world of thick woods, waterfalls, and the whispering Loch stream. Look closely at the massive boulders forming the arch. These stones, some weighing nearly 100 tons, weren’t quarried from some distant mountain. They were gathered right here in the park.
