Have you ever wondered about the Huangzhujing Bridge’s connection to a much larger marvel? The Huangzhujing Bridge is part of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. This incredible project spans the Pearl River Delta, connecting Shenzhen and Zhongshan. The Link isn’t just a bridge. It’s a complex system of bridges, tunnels, and even artificial islands. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link opened on June 30, 2024. It significantly reduced travel time between the two cities to under 30 minutes. This project showcases impressive engineering feats. The Link includes the world’s largest span for an offshore steel box girder suspension bridge at 1,666 meters. Its main towers reach a height of 270 meters. The Link also boasts the world’s longest and widest underwater immersed tube tunnel. This tunnel stretches approximately 6.8 kilometers. The project faced many challenges during construction, including the area’s harsh weather conditions. High temperatures, humidity, salt exposure, and frequent typhoons are common in the Pearl River Delta. Despite these challenges, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link set five world records. These records include the largest span for an offshore suspension bridge and the highest navigation clearance. They also include the largest anchorage volume in the sea, the highest tensile strength for main cables, and the highest wind speed for flutter testing. The Huangzhujing Bridge stands as a testament to human ingenuity. It symbolizes the ambition and innovation driving development in the Pearl River Delta.
