Huanggang. A place where mainland China meets Hong Kong. It stands as a testament to connection and bustling activity. Huanggang Port is located in Futian District, Shenzhen, Guangdong. Its Hong Kong counterpart is the Lok Ma Chau Control Point. It lies across the Sham Chun River.
Huanggang Port is close to Shenzhen city center. It ranks among the five most vital ports linking the city and Hong Kong. Guangshen Expressway begins on its west side. This is the main route between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
At present Huanggang stands as China’s largest comprehensive road crossing for both passengers and cargo. It also ranks among the largest land crossings. Around 20000 vehicles pass through it each day. It is also a busy passenger transit point. Only Luohu Port in Shenzhen sees more traffic. Gongbei Port in Zhuhai is the only other passenger crossing larger than Huanggang.
Let’s delve into the port’s operations. The port covers 1000100 square meters. This includes a surveillance zone and living quarters. It also includes a business service area. The surveillance zone divides into eastern and western sections. Cargo checking occurs in the east zone. Passenger checking takes place in the west. The east area handles entry checking while the west handles exits.
Consider the scale. There are 52 bus checking channels. Twelve are for cars and 40 for trucks. Twenty channels are for entry and 20 for exit. Fifty passenger checking channels exist with 25 for entry and 25 for exit. The port can handle 50000 vehicles and 50000 passengers concurrently.
Interestingly Huanggang Port is China’s only full-time port. Cargo checking operates from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.. Six channels stay open between 10:00 p.m. and midnight. Two for entry and four for exit.
What about public transport? Shenzhen Metro Line 7 connects to Huanggang. You can access the port via Huanggang Checkpoint station Exit C. The Lok Ma Chau Checkpoint lacks direct MTR access. Futian Port is nearby but large buildings make walking impractical.
Cross-border buses also serve Huanggang Port. Direct buses stop at the south of the passenger checking building. Ticket offices are east of the departure passageway. Cross-border routes reach Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok. You can also travel to Wan Chai and Hong Kong Disneyland. These routes operate all day. Many buses run between Huanggang Port and the Border Control Station in Lok Ma Chau.
Since Huanggang Port began 24/7 service passenger numbers rose quickly. They increased from 50000 to 110000 per day reaching a maximum of 172000. Buses cross the border over 1000 times each day. This exceeds the designed capacity. Guangdong and Hong Kong authorities provide combined long and short-term bus services to address this. Five groups of short-term bus routes operate between Huanggang and Hong Kong. These routes serve Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui. They also go to Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan, Mong Kok, and Kam Tin. Five companies operate these routes. Most routes run 24 hours a day. Buses run frequently every 15 minutes during busy times and every 30 minutes at less busy times. Buses of each route share the same color and ticket price.
Huanggang Port stands as a crucial link. It facilitates trade and travel between mainland China and Hong Kong. Its around-the-clock operation reflects its importance in this dynamic region.
