Lorehn, opened its doors in January 1899. This building served as the city’s first paid fire station, a crucial step in modernizing Houston’s fire service. The plaque notes the building’s unique architectural features. These include rusticated stone details, a five-bay front with a central arched entry, and distinctive parapet details. Originally built for horse-drawn equipment, the station adapted to the changing times. In the 1920s, it was updated to house motorized fire engines. Houston Fire Station No. 7 remained active until 1968. The plaque also proudly proclaims its designation as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1988.
