Marvel at the Hu00f4tel Communal de Forest. This stunning Art Deco masterpiece stands before you. It is a testament to Forest’s prosperity between the world wars.

The Hu00f4tel Communal de Forest is more than just a town hall. It’s a symbol of municipal independence. Its design reflects the flourishing suburb it serves. Originally planned for a different location the building was finally erected on the site of an older town hall and a parsonage.

Construction started in 1935. Architect Jean-Baptiste Dewin’s vision came to life in 1938. He created a building that showcases the Art Deco style. Notice the asymmetrical design. The sleek geometric lines and the tower are striking. The small orange bricks add to the building’s unique charm. The building boasts impressive interior and exterior decorations. Artists like Victor Rousseau contributed to its beauty.

The tower itself is a symbol of municipal freedom. Admire the copper sheeted gilded statues. They are the work of Jacques Marin and Marnix d’Haveloose. These impressive sculptures add a majestic touch to the building’s facade.

Examine the main portal. Made of blue stone it leads to the Wedding Room and a monumental staircase. The staircase is made of black grey and white marble. It leads to the Municipal Council Room. A second smaller portal on Rue du Curu00e9 gives access to administrative offices. Look closely at the capitals of the portals’ pillars. They are decorated with bas-reliefs. These bas-reliefs evoke family life and local trades.

The facades blend orange brick and blue stone. Note the brick pilasters. Their blue stone capitals are adorned with masks and animal mouths. Some of these mouths are actually drainpipes. Look for the stepped gables. The largest one features a pelican and a seahorse.

Sadly World War II damaged the building’s facade and entrance. However its beauty endures. In 1992 the exterior interior and furniture received protected status. It stands as a protected cultural monument.

The Hu00f4tel Communal de Forest is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a piece of history. It’s a work of art. It’s a symbol of Forest’s pride. Take a moment to appreciate its magnificence. Its restoration between 2014 and 2024 ensures its beauty will continue for generations to come.
